By default, reports will show data from the last full entire calendar month. That is, any macros in your template that are time-bound (graphs, alert lists etc.) will use the following time period:

• Start: Midnight on the first day of last month, UTC, inclusive
• End: Midnight on the first day of this month, UTC, exclusive

For example, if a report is run on the 17th February, 2021, the date range will include all data after-and-including 2021-01-01 00:00:00 UTC, AND before 2021-01-02 00:00:00 UTC. However, it is easy to change the date range:

• For part of, or the entire report using the DateRange Macro. View the help for this macro for more information or type "startDate" into the Search Everything box to see which macros are affected by this macro
• For individual macro(s) using date range parameters

Using Date Range Parameters

Add any of these date range parameters to a relevant macro to set the date range for only that macro:

• monthsToReport: The number of months to report (default 1). This must be a positive integer between 1 and 12 inclusive. If set, the last N full months will be used
• startDate: The Start Date to use. If specified as "2021-02-01", data from 1st February will be included. 
• endDate: The End Date to use. If specified as "2021-03-01", data from 1st March will not be included. Using the first day of the next month, which will not be included, means you do not have to think about what the last day of each month is. For example, a startDate of 2021-02-01 and endDate of 2017-03-01 will cover the month of February 2021, without you having to know whether that month had 28 or 29 days. This range would starts at 2021-02-01 00:00:00 and end at 2021-02-28 23:59:59

For example:

If you want to show data from a different period of time to the default (last full entire calendar month), you can change the date range for part of, or the entire report using the [DateRange:] macro, or for individual macro(s) using date range parameters.

Timezones in ReportMagic

ReportMagic uses Universal Time (UTC, UTC+0, GMT, GMT+0) for ALL time operations. Therefore all date/time values you provide to ReportMagic must be in UTC.

Using the [DateTime:] Macro to convert to and from UTC

You can use the [DateTime:] macro to convert local time to UTC and vice versa. For example:

[DateTime: value="2022-01-01 00:00:00", timeZone="Pacific Standard Time", format="yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss", storeAs=startDateTime, hidden=true]

As PST is 8 hours behind UTC, this example sets the variable startDateTime to: 2022-01-01 08:00:00

Conversely, to convert from a timezone to UTC, use the timeZoneConversion parameter.You will also need to specify the timeZone parameter. timeZoneConversion has two possible values: utcToTimeZone and timeZoneToUtc (default).

For example:

Store Current Date and Time as UTC: [DateTime:storeAs=UTCDate, format=yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss]

What's the time with a US friend: [DateTime: value={UTCDate}, timeZone=US Eastern Standard Time, TimeZoneConversion=utcToTimeZone, format=HH:mm:ss, storeAs=TheirTime]

I'm in London. What's my local time: [DateTime: value={UTCDate}, timeZone=Europe/London, timeZoneConversion=utcToTimeZone, format=HH:mm:ss, storeAs=LocalTime]

In combination with the [DateRange:] macro, you can set the reporting period for your report to accurately reflect your timezone.

Another useful example is:

[DateTime: format=dayOfWeek, storeAs=dayOfWeekIndex, hidden=true]

[DateTime: addDays=-{dayOfWeekIndex}, format=yyyy-MM-dd 00:00:00, storeAs=firstDayOfThisWeek]

Tip: Remember, when you give a date/time to a ReportMagic macro, you should always FIRST convert it to UTC.
